About the PS: Small System
About the PS: Small House System
1. What Can the PS: Small House Run at the Same Time?
The PS: Small House system has a single 6 kW inverter, providing approximately 25 amps of AC power. This inverter size is the base configuration from which we design your system.
It’s intended for a small home or cabin with relatively modest electricity requirements. Some electric cooking, heating or hot water may be possible, depending on how many appliances are used at the same time.
The system can power everyday appliances, including a fridge-freezer, TV, washing machine, water pump, microwave, jug, toaster, laptops, LED lighting and other small electrical items.
An important consideration is how many appliances you expect to use at the same time. Rather than simply counting the appliances you want to power, we assess their combined AC load.
This helps us determine whether the PS: Small House system will meet your needs or whether a different configuration would be more appropriate.
2. How Much Power Will the Battery Bank Provide Over 24 Hours?
he PS: Small system includes three 3.2 kWh battery modules, providing a total of 9.6 kWh of usable battery storage.
How much storage you need depends on your daily electricity consumption and when you use that electricity. We’ll assess both as part of your Load Evaluation.
This helps us determine whether the three batteries included with the PS: Small are sufficient for your needs or whether the battery bank should be increased or decreased.
3. What’s the Minimum Number of Solar Panels?
he PS: Small House system starts with 10 × 430 W high-efficiency solar panels, providing 4.3 kW of solar capacity.
When we speak, we’ll consider your winter electricity use, local sunshine conditions for your region and panel orientation (whether roof-mounted or ground-mounted) to determine if additional panels are needed to generate enough power during the lower-sunshine months.
The system can accommodate a maximum of 14 × 430 W panels, providing approximately 6 kW of solar capacity and room to expand if your electricity needs increase.
4. Frequently Asked Questions
1. What’s included in the starting price?
The starting price includes the complete PS: Small House system, including the all-in-one inverter, charger, controller unit, three batteries, 10 solar panels, mounting equipment, and all components pre-assembled in steel equipment cabinets.
Freight, generator and installation are additional because these need to be calculated for your particular situation.
2. How much does installation cost?
We can provide an estimated installation cost based on your system and location. This is confirmed following a Technical Site Visit, when our installer checks the property, cable routes, equipment locations and proposed solar array.
The PS: Small House base system gives us a good starting point for estimating installation costs, but every site is different.
3. Do I need a backup generator?
Yes, we recommend an approved auto-start generator as part of a reliable off-grid system due to New Zealand’s latitude and unique climate. It provides backup during consecutive dark winter days and automatically starts when required.
4. What support do I get after installation?
You have ongoing support from Power Station after your system is installed, including system monitoring and assistance if something isn’t working as expected. We also manage the product warranties associated with your Power Station system.
